This is another one on my ‘to read’ list for 2019. The more I reflect on feminism and all that it has achieved and all that it will achieve in this century, the more imperative I think it is to really appreciate the women who’ve fought so hard for us to have the freedoms and privileges we have today.
Anne Summers is one of the great feminists of the second wave and beyond. She has lived the most extraordinary life. She is courageous and intelligent, a change maker, and a believer in expanding potential. I have great personal admiration for Summers. She broke through so many barriers at a time when it was really tough to be a woman in leadership roles.
This quote will give you a sense of what’s in store with this; ‘I was born into a world that expected very little of women like me. We were meant to tread lightly on the earth, influencing events through our husbands and children, if at all. We were meant to fade into invisibility as we aged I defied all of these expectations and so many millions of women like me.’
Reading this book will be my pilgrimage this year, an honouring of the wisdom keepers, of the women who have paved the way for so much potential in the 21st century.
