Having borrowed this book from the library, the minute I opened the first page and read the quote from Audre Lorde, ‘Our feelings are our most genuine paths to knowledge’ I knew this was a book I needed to buy. A book that speaks to feminist issues through the lens of understanding emotions and how to harness them for the power of good? I’m in!
Here’s what you can expect; ‘Women are angry and it isn’t hard to work out why. We are underpaid and overworked. Too sensitive or not sensitive enough. Too dowdy or too flashy. Too big or too thin. Sluts of prudes. We are harassed, told we are asking for it and challenged about whether it would kill us to smile.
Our rage is one of the most important resources we have, our sharpest tool against both personal and political oppression. We’ve been told for so long to bottle up our anger, letting it corrode our bodies and minds in ways we don’t even realise. Yet our anger is a vital instrument, a radar for justice and a catalyst for change.’
I’m particularly looking forward to the chapter on mother rage!
