If you’ve been around the personal development realm for any length of time, you may be familiar with money blocks. They’re the inner wounds, fears, stories that block us from being comfortable with asking for more money, with receiving wealth, with thinking we deserve to live a rich life. Money blocks obviously aren’t the whole story when it comes to your financial life, but they are an important factor.
The inner blocks that aren’t spoken about nearly as often are visibility blocks. Visibility blocks are to your experience of visibility, as money blocks are to your experience of money; they operate internally and impact on the external experiences you’re having.
As a business owner, visibility blocks interact with your money blocks in some really obvious ways; if you aren’t willing to tell people about your business for example, it’s really hard to make money from it. If you’re afraid of what people will think if they see you selling your services or your programs, then you’re likely to resist marketing. And without marketing, it’s almost impossible to grow a business.
Even more importantly though, visibility blocks stop you from being full expressed.
In the online world which is filled with personal brands and people who want to build businesses around their passions and their ideas, not being fully expressed really limits you and the growth of your brand.
Here’s what visibility blocks sound like;
‘Wherever you go, so do the haters’
‘It’s better to stay silent. There’s no point anyway, the world is so noisy.’
‘My voice isn’t going to make a difference.’
‘You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. No matter what you do, people will hate you.’
So many women are being called to speak up at this time.
So many women are being called to find out what they really stand for and to allow themselves to be seen for that, come what may.
Likewise, in the spiritual community many are being called to take their wisdom, their consciousness, their awareness into the streets. To fuse spirituality with social justice. To create a movement. Spirituality in action. Spiritual activism. Conscious change. Call it what you will.
And both of these groups – women and the spiritual/personal development community – have blocks. Huge blocks to visibility.
Of course we do. We’ve been traumatised, tortured, maimed, burned, pilloried, killed, assaulted, ridiculed, and disrespected for our opinions in the past.
We’ve been ignored and told we didn’t know what we were talking about.
There were lions in the Colosseum, the Spanish Inquisition, the Holocaust. Four hundred years of witch hunts, the suppression and appropriation of spiritual practices connected to the Goddess, police brutality toward the Suffragettes.
And persecution isn’t a thing of the past. We live in a world where young girls can be shot for pursuing their right to be educated, where many Muslims in Western countries don’t even feel safe to ride on public transport, and where female politicians receive rape and death threats for speaking up on issues of public policy.
So yes, visibility blocks are to be expected and are well entrenched.
Of course if you’re a conscious woman who has something to say, you’ve got two heavy lineages weighing down on you.
You may also have a third issue to contend with; breaking new ground, sharing new ideas, challenging the mainstream.
It’s really easy to be visible when you’re propping up the status quo.
But when you fell called to share something new, something that people might not understand right off the bat, something you could be judged or criticised for, then you have to also be willing to be seen as the radical, the outsider, the vanguard.
And that brings up a whole new and different set of blocks.
Fears around being rejected from the tribe. Isolated, alone, ostracised.
Fears about retribution. Of haters and trolls coming after you.
The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. Just like money, the more work we do to change our inner worlds, the more we see change in the world around us.
So the place to start is with your stories. Stories about what people expect from you. What they like to hear from you. What they don’t want to hear about from you. Once you’ve seen the stories, you can start clearing them out and that’s where the magic starts to happen. You become a lot more comfortable with being visible, and as you speak up more regularly, people around you listen, perspectives change, and eventually society itself is transformed.
The curriculum of our signature program ‘Women Speaking Up’ is focused on supporting you through that process, so be sure to check that out and send us a message if you’ve got any questions.
The world needs your voice more than ever. It needs to hear from conscious women. Women who want to create positive change in the world. Let’s clear out those blocks and walk hand in hand as we re-create the world we want to live in, not just the one we’ve inherited.
